Impact DJs was formed early 2010 with the prime goal of delivering new and back catalog trance and progressive music styles using a weekly podcast format. We want to showcase some of the cutting edge trance and progressive music available out there and deliver it to the masses.

Now, we know we are not the first DJs to do this. There are some huge DJs out there already doing similar, my absolute favourites being Above and Beyond and their Trance Around the World (TATW) podcast. Another good one is the Gareth Emery podcast. However, we feel our music knowledge allows us to deliver a cutting edge and professional podcast. We take a lot of time to select some of the best trance and progressive each week as it becomes available and morph that with older tracks to deliver a stunning mix!

What makes Impact different is that we are a collaboration of DJs, each with a slightly different music style. It’s this variation that allows us to continually bring you trance and progressive styles week in, week out. If you want to keep bang up to date with both styles on a regular basis, all you need to do is subscribe to our podcast using iTunes or listen live, right here on the site!

Trance / Euphoric

This is where my (Andy Jackson) love for trance really lies. I got hooked on sounds back from ’98 – 2002 when I was younger and absolutely loved the sound. I now find that some of the trance releases of the last 3 years have been absolutely phenomenal.

Sweet female vocals, anticipating snares, haunting synths and banging bass drops – that’s how I personally define trance! Certainly spending time digging through the latest releases from my favorite artists (Armin Van Buuren, Lange, Tiff Lacey, Masoud just to name a couple) is something I love doing every week as a hobby. It’s what makes me get up in the morning!

Progressive Trance

I personally define progressive trance as a sub genre, born out of the original trance era of say 96-2000. Progressive trance for me is a slower, less fast-paced sound (130bpm – 135bpm) and incorporates a real variety of sounds.

Our resident DJ Minorthreat (Andy Sheridan) is a huge fan of progressive and as such, we always end up comparing notes on euphoric trance over progressive! However, I have to agree this sound really does have a hardcore following, with many top DJs playing amazing sets consisting entirely of progressive music. Artists like Above and Beyond, Gareth Emery, Lange again to name but a few.

The Future of Trance and Progressive

For me, I really think the future of both genres is entirely dependent on how they evolve. Music tastes and styles evolve over time and that is evident just by looking at the last 10 years. What was classic trance back in ’98 has been divided into so many sub-genres now – Euphoric, Progressive and Hard Trance are all examples of this diversion.

What I can say though, is those changes are what’s keeping the music feeling fresh and it’s what keep people hooked and coming back for more. Trance and progressive has now evolved itself into a popular world genre. I heard a figure recently that Above and Beyond Trance Around The World podcast gets 4 million downloads a month. That clearly goes to show how much the scene has grown over the years. Again look at Ibiza, as popular now as it was 10 years ago.

I’m one of those fans who still loves the sound and we hope that the Impact DJs podcast can bring you some of the excitement that trance and progressive has brought to us over the years.
